About MARUKI Saifuku

Overcoming adversity, bridging past and future.
A new chapter as a Registered
Tangible Cultural Property guesthouse.

"MARUKI Saifuku" was once a merchant house that sustained Kakuda's economy. Built over 100 years ago, this building is deeply embedded with the region's culture, craftspeople's skills, and the lives of its inhabitants.

However, in March 2022, an earthquake registering 6.0 magnitude severely damaged this historic structure, putting its survival at risk. From this crisis emerged a vision: not merely to restore it to its original state, but to breathe new life into it and share its value with more people.

After comprehensive restoration, including seismic reinforcement, MARUKI Saifuku has been reborn as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. The historic design has been preserved while transforming it into a comfortable exclusive rental guesthouse.

MARUKI Saifuku today is far more than a guesthouse. It is a symbol of resilience—connecting past and future, tradition and people, community and visitors. In this space where traditional craftsmanship and modern comfort converge, we invite you to experience the tangible essence of time.
