MARUKI Saifuku can be rented for the day: a 100-year-old merchant house, yours alone. Gold folding screens, carved transoms, the tokonoma alcove, the engawa veranda, the black board fence and the koi pond — backdrops no studio can build. One group per day, so you can work without anyone else around.

Changing and make-up: a lockable room serves as a changing room; there is a full-length mirror and two washbasins you can use for make-up.
Power and equipment: outlets in every room, extension cords available, free set-up within your booked time, strobes permitted.
Light: the engawa and the south-facing tatami rooms take soft natural light from late morning through the afternoon.
House rules: replica swords are fine. No open flame, smoke machines, fake blood or water effects indoors, and nothing may be fixed to the fittings or pillars. No shoes on the tatami, and please protect the floor under equipment feet.
Publishing: you are free to post your work on social media and the web. Crediting the house is optional but appreciated.
