Gather around the table in three connecting tatami rooms, then enjoy movie nights on the 100-inch 4K theater. Close the sliding doors and each room becomes private, so families can take a room of their own. The house is comfortable for up to 7 guests; there is one bathroom and one toilet, two washbasins, and sleeping, bathing and the toilet are all on the ground floor.
In Kakuda, Miyagi. A historic merchant house that once sustained the region's economy, and a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. The transom carvings, doors and sliding panels that mark the passage of time remain, while the bathroom and kitchen have been fully modernized.

Concerns common to traditional guesthouse stays are resolved. All water facilities have been fully renovated. Clean and functional bathrooms, toilets, and kitchens, complete with air conditioning and Wi-Fi. We promise a stress-free stay where you can live like a resident.
Beyond overnight stays, the house can be rented for the day. Cosplay and portrait photography, pre-wedding shoots, and small group retreats for university seminars and teams. Gold folding screens, carved transoms, the engawa veranda, the black board fence and the koi pond — backdrops no studio can build, yours alone for the day.
From the gate to the tatami rooms, the bath and the kitchen, and the pond where the koi swim — arranged in the order you would meet them, from arrival to departure. Everything you would want to see before booking is there.
Just a one-minute walk away, the legendary "Marusen" storehouse where three zashiki-warashi (child spirits of good fortune) are said to live. Daikoyama Park with its full-size H-II rocket model. And Kakuda's own local flavors.
Why stay in Kakuda? The town sits in the middle of southern Miyagi, a comfortable base for a Tohoku road trip: Zao Onsen and the Okama crater about 45 minutes by car, central Sendai about 50 minutes, Sendai Airport about 40 minutes, Matsushima about 70 minutes, Shiroishi Castle about 30 minutes, and the Zao Fox Village about 40 minutes. Public transport is limited here, so we recommend a rental car. A supermarket, convenience store and local restaurants are within walking distance.
